Use Facebook Messenger App to stay connected by video to your family and friends during a quarantine

The times are tough for grandparents who can’t see their family and grandchildren during this quarantine. Your bridge group misses seeing each other. Your small group can’t get together anymore. The family luncheons have been canceled.

Don’t miss out on everyday contact and viewing their sweet faces. One of the apps that we suggest is the Facebook Messenger App.

Facebook Messenger App

Most people use Messenger to send a few messages back and forth to their Facebook friends. But did you know you can have a group video chat on Facebook Messenger?

How to use Facebook Messenger for group video chats:

  • Download Facebook or Messenger App on your phone or your computer.
  • If using the Messenger App, just click on App Icon.
  • If using Facebook, click the icon that looks like the picture below:

In the mobile app, find the icon that looks like the picture below. On the computer, it will say “new message.” A list of your Facebook friends will populate. Then select the circle on the right-hand side of the names of your friends you want to video chat with. Select “Done” at the top of the page.

A new window will open with your friends’ names. Look in the top right-hand corner and click on the icon that looks like a camera.

A video call with your friends will be generated. Sometimes it takes a minute or two to connect. Then you can talk to several of your friends at one time and also see their faces!

Zoom, GroupMe, and Facetime are other apps that allow you to video with family and friends.

Good luck, Grans!
